7. Chapter II vignette takes place in the town of Adrianople.
8. The greeks are the ones who are evacuating the town of Adrianople.
9. The weather described in chapter 2 is Rain, midst of mud flats. The river is running yellow
10. Dick Boulton accuses Nick's dad of stealing the wood. The doc. is saying he didnt steal it but Dick washes it off in the water and finds out it belongs to White and Mcnally.

13. The Doctor(Nick's dad) had a fight with Dick because Dick was accusing him of stealing the wood

7. The 2nd Chapter is based in a town of Adrianople. Adrianople is probably in the Greek countryside, as there are Greek Calvary helping the people and the Name itself sounds Greek.
8. Seemingly older people are being evacuated by the military, though the writing does mention the lady having a baby on the side of the road. It would seem therefore that those being evacuated are those who are not fit for fighting.
9. The weather is not the best for the evacuation, as it is raining. Rain does seem to go perfectly together with the feeling of the story.
10. Dick Boulton accuses Nick's father of stealing from the steamer Magic, or their company for that matter. The logs don't actually belong to Nick's father as the steamer owners are coming to claim them, so in a way the father is stealing.
11. Nick's mother is Christian Science, apparently, by the advice that she gives the father about how to handle the fight relates to her wishes as to how the father was to confront Dick.
12. Dick's son is called Eddy and is mentioned only slightly such as in passing. Thee doesn't seem to be any real importance to him as of yet.
13. In chapter 2 it is Nick's father who gets into a fight with Dick Boulton, over the fact that Dick accuses him of stealing the logs, while apparently he understands or knows that this is somehow true he can't give into Dick as it would ruin his male reputation, in a reference to the masculinity all of the men there have to show.
14.After the brief fight Nick's father goes inside the house, takes out his favorite shotgun and cleans it. The unloads and reloads the gun while talking to his wife rather untruthfully as to what transpired outside.
