Chapter 11:
1. Tea Cake tells Janie to have another Coke because "it wasn't done right dat [the first] time."
2. Tea Cake and Janie go fishing in Lake Sabelia after midnight.
3. Tea Cake brings a comb with him, so he is prepared to comb Janie's hair.
4. Tea Cake catches a string of trout for Janie.
5. Janie wishes she was Tea Cake's age.
6. Tea Cake wants to bet a dollar that he does love Janie.
7. Tea Cake visits Janie at dawn to tell her his "daytime thoughts."
8. When Janie leaves the store, she finds Tea Cake pretending to sleep in her hammock.
9. Tea Cake brings a car to the store so he would have something to drive Janie away in.
10. Tea Cake has been saving up for the picnic for two weeks.
Chapter 12:
1. At the start of Chapter 12, Joe has been dead only 9 months.
2. Janie starts wearing blue all the time because Tea Cake thinks she looks best in it.
3. The Pastor thinks that Tea Cake doesn't let Janie go to church so that he can use the extra change for gas.
4. On the way to Janie's, Pheoby speaks with everybody she encounters.
5. Janie feels that because she is no longer grieving Joe, she no longer needs to express grief through dark clothing.
6. Phoeby is afraid that Janie is losing her senses with age, like a possum.
7. Janie is selling the store because Tea Cake couldn't and wouldn't run it like Joe did, and because they are going to move.
8. When Janie says that she has "done lived grandma's way," she means that she has lived with the money and power Nanny wanted for her, and doesn't want to anymore.
9. Phoeby says, "Ah jus lak uh chicken. Chicken drinks water, but he don't pee-pee," to explain that she can keep Janie's secret.
10. Janie plans to wear a blue satin dress which tea cake picked for her, along with other accessories that he likes Janie in.
