Chapter IX
1. Hemingway often fixates on the notion of "manliness." What aspects of manliness are focused on in this chapter?
2. Why include this chapter, set after the ending of the war, in a book largely focused on war and its effects?

Chapter IX
1.The aspects of manliness focused in this chapter is where the matador's are trying to kill the bull
2.I think this chapter was set at the end of the war in this book because it shows the manliness of the men in general not only in war but outside of war too.

3.According to the author Hubert Elliot lacks masculinity in being able to have a baby with Mrs. Elliot.
4.Disappointment and separation of rooms was a result of Hubert's lack of masculinity.

Chapter X
5.This vignette is a metaphor for the war by the actions of the characters of this chapter.

Cat in the Rain
6.Americans approach happiness by their needs and wants, and Italians by helping others.
7.The American wife is unhappy because she didn't get the cat she saw through her window.

1. The bullfighting(rodeo) is described as 'manliness'.
2. It mainly focus about the war and its effect because the author wants to tell the readers that the war is not a joke.
3. His closed-minded made womens avoid on him.
4. They tried really hard to have a baby; but they could't have any baby.
5. The words this chapter is using are all related to the war.
6. The attitude towards their husband/wife is different.
7. Because her husband doens't let her do something she wants to do.
8.They want to see more fight, more excitment, 'they were throwing pieces of bread' is described as more bullfight.
9. Because he was depressed that his wife is gone.
10. They are close and not close at the same time, because you don't know what is going to happen between man and women

Chapter IX
1. The aspects of manliness that are focused in this chapter are strength and endures. It shows that bull fighting was the manliest sport of them all.
2. This chapter was most likely placed right after the war because the war ended on a high note were as this takes that glory and decreases it.

Mr. and Mrs. Elliot
3. Hubert Elliot lacks masculinity by having difficulties conceiving a baby and not having sex with a lot of women.
4. The effects of Hubert's lack of masculinity are that he had difficulty conceiving a baby and not being able to make his wife happy.

CHapter X
5. This vignette is a metaphor for the war by showing how the bull, which is the enemy, fights the horse, who are the soldiers, while the picador, the generals and leader, isn't receiving as much damage as the horse.

6. The American way of approaching happiness is though material things; where as the Italians look for happiness though intangible things such as emotion.
7. The American wife is unhappy because she couldn't find that cat.

Chapter XI
8. The symbolism in this vignette are that civilians watch by the sidelines until it is save then profit off of it.

9. Peduzzi carries the fishing pole because he doesn't want to admit that he's going to have a good time.
10. This scene reflects that of human kind by showing how people can be stubborn at time.
